From the city of Nantes, in the Bretagne region of France, comes the distinct and intelligent warble of Vincent Dupas. Immediately reflective of formative years spent discovering American folk music and indie rock, Dupas’ songs carry rich subtextural elements, deep enough to be explored with vigor — his lyrics, reflections on culture and politics and the personal adventure of being human, are colorful, beautiful, and often fascinating contortions of the English language. Dupas’ self-awareness and humor are matched only by his sincerity.
He released 3 full-length album on Collectif-Effervescence between 2006 and 2009 playing alone or with different fellow musicians.
The most recent release is a 7″ with two songs recorded quickly and simply, mostly live, at Hotel Earth Studio in Chicago, in an impromptu collaboration by everyone who was around at the end of MNIN’s 2009 US tour in an effort to stave off the coming cold weather. ‘Here in Don Benito‘ features Faustine Seilman on electric piano and Ben Babbitt of This is Cinema on drums; ‘Wayfaring Stranger‘ is an old folk song featuring the voices of Pillars and Tongues.
These last years, MNIN performed more than 200 shows touring extensively through Europe and the United States sharing the van with Pillars and Tongues, Faustine Seilman, Fordamage, and opened for Bill Callahan, Sir Richard Bishop, Explosions in the sky, and more…
Vincent Dupas is also playing in the energetic rock band called Fordamage (Kythibong Records), and his playing the bass for Faustine Seilman (Collectif-Effervescence).
